Vulnerable Goods/Equipment

Many instruments, machines and appliances comprise a complex assembly of mechanical and electronic components, sensors, controls and, sometimes, glassware. It is clear that such assemblies can be vulnerable to damage and will require protective packaging to ensure safe delivery to customers.

Sectors

Products from the following sectors are commonly referred to as vulnerable products from a packaging perspective:

  • White goods & brown goods
  • Electricals & electronics
  • Defence, aerospace and automotive
  • Industrial equipment/machinery
  • Medical devices.

Packaging cost vs level of protection

Pira understands the financial importance of achieving the optimum balance between the durability of your product / pack combination and the physical rigours of your supply chain. When this situation is out of balance the result is financial loss either from excessive packaging or product damage:

  • Excessive packaging: High shipping and storage costs, high unit cost, high environmental burden
  • Insufficient packaging: High field support costs, increased recovery and replacement cost, reverse logistics costs, loss of trade/custom

Achieving the optimal solution requires a multi-dimensional approach requiring knowledge, skills, experience and specialist facilities:
